In Arabic, the gorgeously wild Bougainvillea is known as مَجْنُونَة (Majnūna) - meaning crazy. Reclaiming that word, especially in times of grief and loss, Tara Hakim turns to the bougainvillea, with all it’s contradictions, for guidance. Thorned yet tender, resilient yet delicate, vibrantly colourful yet stripped bare in winter. These dualities reminds her to embrace all the ways of being human, to hold space for complexity, and to find beauty in the contradictions that make us whole.
